Who is the Floating Mug Company Founder?
The Floating Mug was made by Tigere Chiriga from Zimbabwe. Before creating the Floating Mug, Chiriga worked for the Postal Service, and he still does.
What is Shark Tank?
Shark Tank is a reality TV show that debuted in 2009. The show features a panel of wealthy investors, called “sharks,” who listen to pitches from entrepreneurs and decide whether or not to invest in their business. If the sharks decide to invest, they negotiate with the entrepreneur on how much equity they will receive in return for their investment.
The show has been very successful, and has spawned numerous imitators. It has also helped to make household names out of its stars, like Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran.
The Floating Mug Shark Tank Tale
Tigere Chiriga makes is a man behind a ground-breaking Floating Mug Company. Another Kickstarter success story that made it into the Tank is The Floating Mug Company, where Chiriga raised nearly $40K on a $15K ask, more than double his expected funds. Soon after moving into their first house in 2008 with his new bride, Chiriga had the idea. He is a frequent tea drinker, and his wife did not find it amusing when he left numerous rings on the couple’s new furnishings. He wanted to find a new type of coffee or tea cup that wouldn’t need a saucer or coaster because he enjoys sipping his tea from porcelain mugs.
When he picked up the banana holder in their kitchen, his “AHA moment” occurred, and a dream was born. He found some prototype mugs in China and bought them for himself, but friends and family started asking where he got them. After a while, he started looking into the idea of producing the floating mug in the United States. His Kickstarter campaign covered the cost of new molds and 500 units (which were given out as rewards for funding the project).
Australia now has access to The Floating Mug Company, and it will be present on the Big Brother Australia set. Chiriga offers the item for sale online, but he wants a Shark to help him “get big” quickly.
The Floating Mug Shark Tank Update
Tiggs made his first and last appearances on Shark Tank with Floating Mug during the course of Season 6, Episode 2 in 2014. The businessman gave the panel Floating mugs with his company’s logo while telling an engrossing story. His first offer was for $75,000 in cash for a 15% ownership part in the Floating Mug.
None of the Sharks chose to take part in the arrangement after extensively questioning Tiggs. Tiggs did not let the rejection of his offer deter him, and six months after making an appearance on Shark Tank, he went to Lori Greiner and asked for her help.
He agreed to Lori’s offer of $75,000 in exchange for a 51% stake in Floating Mug. However, the deal was unsuccessful. In 2017, Tiggs ran yet another Kickstarter campaign, but due to challenges with manufacturing and delivery, the firm failed soon after and is currently inactive as of this writing.
